    Position Summary:
    The Primary Guide is responsible for preparing and maintaining a beautiful, orderly Montessori environment that supports the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of children ages 3 to 6.     Primary Job Functions:

    Teaching and Child Guidance

    • Deliver lessons in practical life, sensorial, language, and mathematics, and enrich the curriculum with cultural presentations and discussions.

    • Observe each child’s progress and follow up with tailored lessons and support to meet their developmental needs.

    • Maintain a peaceful, respectful classroom environment where children feel physically and emotionally secure and can work independently without unnecessary disruption.

    • Ensure materials and furnishings are clean, in stock, and developmentally appropriate; guide children in maintaining the space's order

    Planning and Record Keeping

    • Devote approximately two weeks before the school year and a few days after school ends to preparing, organizing the environment, and collaborating with colleagues.

    • Maintain accurate records of lessons presented, observations, and each child’s progress; submit reports to the administrator as scheduled or requested.

    • Provide biannual written progress reports and conduct parent conferences twice per year.

    • Maintain regular communication with parents about their child’s development and submit email and newsletter updates as requested.

    Collaboration and Supervision

    • Supervise and guide the classroom assistant to ensure consistency with Montessori principles and optimal support for the children.

    • Meet 1:1 with the assistant regularly to prepare, plan, and provide feedback and guidance.

    • Meet 1:1 with the Head of School regularly.

    • Participate actively in team collaboration, sharing observations, questions, and insights with colleagues and the administrator.

    • Communicate classroom needs and any concerns about children, families, or staff to the administrator in a timely and professional manner.

    Community Engagement and Professional Development

    • Attend all staff meetings and in-service days; attend board meetings as requested.

    • Attend school events, including parent education evenings and community gatherings.

    • Observe in at least two other classrooms (internally or externally) each year to support ongoing growth and alignment.

    • Professional Development: Complete a minimum of 15 hours of documented training each school year. 8 hours in Child Development (CD) and 1 hour in Health, Safety, and Nutrition (HSN). All staff members must submit documentation to Oregon Registry Online.

    Health & Safety

    • Ensure children are supervised at all times.

    • Respond promptly to accidents or injuries, including timely completion of written reports and immediate parent notification.

    • Bear responsibility for the physical and emotional well-being of all children under your care.

    • Interpret the education program, the philosophy, policies and procedures of the school to parents and other interested persons in a professional manner.

    • Abide by the policies of SunGarden Montessori Children’s House and conduct yourself in a professional manner. Adhere to AMI guidelines and standards for the purpose of maintaining the quality and excellence of the Montessori experience for the children.

  • Childpeace Montessori is seeking a Classroom Guide to join our Metro Middle School Program beginning August 2025. This salaried, exempt, benefit-eligible position (medical, dental, vision, and more) follows a Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during the school year, with occasional evening and weekend commitments.

    The Middle School Guide establishes and maintains the Montessori classroom with fellow guides, supports adolescent well-being, and fosters positive relationships with parents and colleagues.

    Essential Responsibilities
    The Guide prepares the classroom environment, lesson plans, and records. They model intellectual curiosity, collaborate with other guides, and support students’ academic, social, emotional, and physical growth. They use observation and assessment tools, promote self-management, and ensure equity. The Guide identifies potential learning challenges and maintains confidentiality. Responsibilities include field trips, volunteerism, and student-led community outings, with a focus on high school readiness. The Guide draws from personal strengths to enhance learning, integrates city excursions, invites community experts, and co-leads both a 7–10 day Odyssey trip and a 5-day Spring Trip annually.

    They maintain cleanliness and order in classroom and community spaces, promote student responsibility for the environment, and model organization. Classroom management includes delivering clear lessons, setting appropriate behavioral expectations, fostering self-regulation and peer conflict resolution, and maintaining clear boundaries.

    The Guide builds trust with parents through clear communication, serving as a student advocate, and upholding professional conduct. They organize parent education, conduct two annual conferences (with optional pre-conferences), and offer additional meetings as needed. They write and share four progress reports annually, advise on Montessori philosophy, and document communications with families. Confidentiality is maintained, and the School Partnership Agreement is revisited as needed.

    The Guide arrives and leaves 30 minutes before/after school hours and represents the school professionally. They communicate regularly with leadership, raise concerns appropriately, attend staff and in-service meetings (including 2.5 hours of weekly collaboration), support high school transitions, contribute to fundraising, maintain alumni connections, and uphold professional appearance. Other duties may be assigned.

    Professional development includes 24 hours of annual training, AMI membership (dues paid by Childpeace), building resource knowledge, participating in observations and collegial exchange, offering and receiving feedback, and adhering to the Staff and Parent/Student Handbooks. Maintaining a valid teaching credential is encouraged.

    Supervision
    The Adolescent Program Director supervises this position, providing feedback, goal-setting, and conducting evaluations in collaboration with the Head of School. HR-related questions go to the Director of Finance and Operations. The Guide receives feedback professionally.

    Qualifications
    Bachelor’s degree required; AMI 12–18 diploma, M.Ed./MAT, and valid teaching license preferred. Understanding of adolescent development and at least two years of teaching experience required.

    Certifications
    Background check and Central Background Registry enrollment, Food Handler Card, CPR/First Aid, and Child Abuse & Neglect training required. 24 hours of annual professional development required.

    General Requirements
    All staff work collaboratively, maintain regular attendance, focus on student experience, perform assigned duties, and present professionally.

    Skills
    Strong language skills for written and verbal communication with students, staff, and parents. Proficient in reading professional materials, writing reports and emails, and speaking effectively. Able to model and perform basic arithmetic. Proficient in email, document creation, database input, Google Suite, and presentations.

    Reasoning and Physical Demands
    Able to solve problems and follow multi-format instructions. Must frequently move between sitting, standing, and walking; run as needed; lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds in emergencies. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral acuity. Physical stamina needed for regular outings and trips.

    Work Environment
    Includes outdoor activity in various weather, variable noise levels, regular neighborhood outings, and overnight camping trips.

  • Childpeace Montessori School seeks a Spanish Teacher to join our Middle School Program beginning August 2025. This is a part-time, hourly position averaging 15 hours per week, likely scheduled over 2 to 3 weekdays. Occasional evening and weekend commitments may be required.

    The Spanish Teacher supports students' academic and social-emotional development through engaging, culturally responsive instruction. This educator builds strong relationships with adolescents, colleagues, and families and is committed to professional growth and upholding Childpeace’s mission and values.

    Responsibilities include planning and delivering effective Spanish lessons, following a schedule provided by the Program Director. The teacher will adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs, foster a respectful and identity-aware classroom culture, and clearly communicate student progress. They will collaborate with the Middle School team, contribute to school-wide goals, maintain an organized environment, and uphold confidentiality and professionalism. The teacher will be evaluated by and report to the Middle School Program Director.

    A bachelor’s degree in Spanish or a related field is required. A master’s degree and/or relevant teaching experience is preferred. Candidates must have at least two years of successful Spanish teaching experience at the middle or high school level, a comprehensive approach to instruction (grammar, listening, speaking, cultural literacy), and proficiency with communication and technology tools. Experience with student-centered, project-based, or Montessori education is valued. Native Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply. Candidates must pass a background check and be eligible to work in the U.S.

    Required certifications and training (provided by the school) include a Food Handler Card, CPR/First Aid, Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect, and 24 hours of documented annual professional development.
