  • Acton Academy Lake Oswego is a new learner-driven Christian school opening in Fall 2026. Our founding Spark Studio will serve ages 5–7 in a calm, beautiful environment grounded in Montessori principles and inspired by the Acton Academy model.

We believe children are far more capable than we often expect. Our studio blends the Montessori prepared environment with learner ownership, self-paced mastery, meaningful work, and Socratic discussion.

We are especially excited to connect with Montessori-trained Guides who deeply respect Montessori philosophy while remaining open, curious, and energized by exploring how those principles can continue evolving for today’s world.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a founding studio from the ground up alongside a deeply committed founding family and small learner community.

    The Role
The Spark Studio Guide will prepare and protect a thoughtfully designed studio that supports independence, concentration, collaboration, and joyful work. While deeply aligned with Montessori philosophy, our model differs from traditional Montessori environments in one important way: learners are intentionally given increasing ownership over the community itself.

At Acton, Guides are not lecturers, classroom managers, or the center of the studio. Instead, they act more like game makers: designing meaningful challenges, protecting clear boundaries, asking thoughtful questions, and gradually handing more responsibility to learners over time.

We are seeking someone who believes children are capable of extraordinary growth when trusted with meaningful work, high expectations, freedom within clear guardrails, and a deeply respectful community culture.

    Responsibilities

    • Preparing and maintaining a beautiful, orderly prepared environment

    • Supporting individualized literacy and math progression through hands-on materials

    • Protecting extended work cycles and concentration

    • Guiding learners toward independence and self-management

    • Facilitating short Socratic discussions, launches, and collaborative work

    • Modeling calm leadership, curiosity, humility, and respect

    • Partnering closely with families during our founding year

    • Helping establish the rhythms, systems, and culture of the studio

    Qualifications

    • Montessori training (AMI, AMS, MACTE-accredited, or equivalent)

    • Comfort with Positive Discipline approach is a strong plus

    • Experience working with children ages 5–7 preferred

    • Organized, observant, and consistent with routines

    • Must pass a background check

    • Interest in learner-driven education and the Acton Academy philosophy

    • Alignment with the Christian mission and values of the school

    • Must pass a background check

    Compensation

    • Salary range: $45,000 to $55,000, depending on experience

    • Annual performance bonus based on studio outcomes and family partnership

    • Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard school-day hours

    • Paid time off aligned with the school calendar, including Christmas break and standard school-year holidays

    • Training and professional development in the Acton model

    • Founding-year leadership and growth potential
