ELEMENTARY

  • Full-time, 9-month school year
    Start date: Fall 2026
Salary: $35,000–$45,000 annually, based on experience

Two Rivers Farm School is seeking a thoughtful, grounded, and imaginative educator to join our growing team as a First Grade Teacher.

Located on a farm in Aurora, Oregon, our school is a small, nature-based early childhood and elementary program where children spend their days engaged in outdoor exploration, meaningful work, and hands-on learning. Our community has been around since the late 1970s and was a thriving preschool through elementary program. After closing during the pandemic, we intentionally reopened as a smaller early childhood program with a vision to rebuild one grade at a time, and we are now in an active phase of thoughtful growth.

Our approach weaves together traditional academics with nature immersion, seasonal rhythms, and experiential learning. While we are inspired by Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia education, we are not formally affiliated with any one model. We value independence, curiosity, creativity, and a deep respect for the developmental needs of the child.

First grade at Two Rivers Farm School is a meaningful bridge between early childhood and more formal academics. The teacher introduces foundational literacy and numeracy through story, movement, art, and real-world experiences, while continuing to honor the importance of play, rhythm, and connection to the natural world.

The ideal candidate delights in childhood, values community, and approaches teaching as a relational and creative practice. This role is well suited for an educator who is looking for both professional autonomy and the opportunity to be part of shaping a growing school.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Teaching a first grade curriculum including language arts, math, nature study, art, and movement using provided materials with flexibility to adapt to student needs

    • Creating a classroom environment rooted in empathy, curiosity, and respect

    • Spending meaningful time outdoors with students in all seasons

    • Collaborating closely with preschool and kindergarten teachers to support continuity across the grades

    • Communicating regularly with families in a warm and respectful manner

    • Participating in team meetings, seasonal festivals, and community events

    • Engaging in mentorship and ongoing professional development

    • Contributing to the evolving culture and vision of the school

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience required, preferably in early elementary

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Teaching credential preferred but not required

    • Experience or strong interest in nature-based education

    • Familiarity with or interest in Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, or child-centered approaches

    • Deep respect for children and a belief in their inherent goodness

    • Ability to collaborate within a small, growing, mission-driven school

    • Willingness to learn, reflect, and grow as an educator

    What we offer:

    • Small class sizes that allow for meaningful connection with each child

    • A collaborative and supportive teaching team

    • Professional trust and creative freedom in the classroom

    • A beautiful farm setting that supports grounded, experiential learning

    • The opportunity to help shape a growing and evolving school

    • The possibility of affordable housing on the property

    • Additional benefits include paid school holidays and breaks, tuition discount for enrolled children, and opportunities for additional income through summer camp teaching.

At Two Rivers Farm School, we are committed to building a school environment where both children and teachers can thrive. As our program grows, so will our capacity to grow compensation alongside it.
